Job Purpose

An officer at this level will be responsible to the Head of Mental Health Department in provision of Clinical Psychology services in the Hospital.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Formulating and reviewing counselling policies, strategies, guidelines and standards; coordinating guidance and counselling services;
  • Initiating and developing counselling and guidance programmes;
  • Designing strategies for psychological interventions;
  • Monitoring implementation and evaluation of guidance and counselling projects and programmes;
  • Facilitating sessions, seminars and workshop on guidance and counselling;
  • Spearheading research and disseminating findings for implementations; preparing reports;
  • Planning and budgeting for guiding and counselling activities;
  • Building capacity and managing performance;
  • Oversee preparation of unit performance contracts work plans;
  • Prepare budgets and procurement plan;
  • Initiating quality improvement initiatives; and
  • Monitoring staff performance.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Masters in Clinical Psychology or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
  • Bachelors in Clinical Psychology or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
  • Higher Diploma in counselling psychology or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
  • Certificate of Registration by a relevant professional body;
  • Leadership/ Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;
  • Evidence of proficiency and knowledge in computer applications; and
  • A minimum period of eight (8) years relevant work experience and at least three (3) years’ experience in a supervisory capacity.
