The Maa Trust is a non-profit organization working together with community-owned wildlife conservancies in the Maasai Mara, Kenya. We work to increase the benefits of wildlife and conservation to Maasai families so that they appreciate and contribute to the protection of wild animals on their land.

Key roles and responsibilities:

  • Assist with the supervision and coordination of day-to-day groundwork, including landscaping, drainage, and cleanliness.
  • Perform basic carpentry tasks such as furniture repairs, fittings, and wooden structures maintenance.
  • Conduct routine maintenance checks and minor repairs of office and site equipment (e.g., doors, windows, shelves, and fixtures).
  • Report maintenance issues and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Support in tracking site materials, tools, and consumables inventory.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with safety procedures and cleanliness across the site.
  • Provide logistical support during internal site meetings or repairs.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Help ensure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Support emergency response actions and report any safety hazards immediately.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Certificate or Diploma in Carpentry, Building Technology, Construction Management, or related technical field.
  • Artisan certification from a recognized institution (NITA or equivalent).
  • Practical experience in carpentry and minor maintenance work (can include apprenticeship or informal work).
  • Basic knowledge of building maintenance and repair.
  • Proficiency in use of carpentry tools and materials.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Good physical fitness and willingness to perform manual labor.
  • Team player with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
