Responsibilities or duties

Is responsible for day-to-day smooth running of the unit which includes staffing, appropriate scheduling of patients and coordination of patient care.

Leads the Consulting Clinic team in formulation, implementation and evaluation of annual goals and objectives in accordance with program and nursing division strategic objectives.

Develops collaborative ways of working that link all contributors in the multidisciplinary team in patient care issues.

Ensures staff coverage for safe and effective patient care.

In collaboration with others, leads the Consulting Clinic team in development, implementation and review of policies, procedures, protocols, Clinical pathways, and care guidelines in line with identified standards.

In collaboration with the Nursing Manager and Program Administrator participates in the recruitment, selection, and training of the Nursing team.

Undertakes performance reviews of staff in Consulting Clinics and develops action plans to ensure individual staff growth.

Fosters pleasant working environment through motivational leadership style to enhance job satisfaction among staff in medical consulting Clinic including physicians.

Puts in place measures to control unit costs, stocks, and bad debts.

Participates in the Budget process and ensures efficient utilization of resources.

Provides effective supervision of the nursing staff and utilizes learning opportunities for their development.

Continuously initiates innovative and evidence-based strategies to improve patient care.

Participates in establishment of standards of care with unit staff, and monitors delivery of care according to established standards.

In collaboration with the Manager Nursing Education Services and Program Administrator, fosters development of nurses to maximum potential through providing educational/training opportunities and exposure to appropriate learning forums.

Ensures a system is in place to monitor nurses' clinical knowledge, skills, and competencies.

Develops and maintains effective networks both Internal and external to improve nursing practice.

Takes lead in unit based Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) projects, Clinical Care Program Certification (CCPC), and ensure participation by nurses.

Guides nursing staff in initiation of and participation in unit-based as well as hospital wide nursinc research prolects.

Is responsible for staff, patient, and family satisfaction with services in consulting clinics.

Responds to client complaints in a timely manner by solving problems or informing the relevant persons.

Ensures program-based client satisfaction surveys is carried out, monitors trends of incidences/complaints and takes appropriate action.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

Registered Nurse with current licensure with the Nursing Council of Kenya

Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BScN)

Certification in BLS

Proficient in Basic computer skills

Experience needed

Minimum of 5 years clinical nursing experience in Medical-Surgical unit in an acute care hospital.

2 - 3 years in leadership position in Medical surgical units

Demonstrates current knowledge in general nursing.

Demonstrates leadership and management skills.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Ability to teach and cascade information at all levels
