At TakaTaka Solutions, We collect your waste like every other waste collector, but, instead of taking it to a landfill, we take it to our own sites, where we sort the waste, and then recycle 95% either ourselves or through our local partners. This represents one of the highest recycling rates in the world.
Job Description:
- Lead and instruct the sorting team across baling, sorting, and equipment.
- Enforce and promote a culture of safety; ensure all staff wear full PPE at all times.
- Ensure all equipment is cleaned before and after each shift (conveyors, forklifts, wheel loaders, sorting spaces, bale storage).
- Investigate and report accidents or incidents promptly; implement corrective actions.
- Ensure proper housekeeping around the respective sorting area.
- Communicate daily equipment priorities to forklift and wheel loader operators; coordinate scheduling of forklifts and wheel loaders to support sorting and baling.
- Coordinate with Logistics to plan tipper trips for Grade IV, Residual, and Grade A clearance.
- Approve inflow — plan and confirm trucks delivering waste from camps or external transporters.
- Coordinate construction/repair needs at the MRF with the Construction Supervisor; communicate conveyor and baler maintenance needs to the Maintenance team.
- Authorise material issuance from the store (fuel, straps) by signing the authorisation book; identify and dispatch baling straps (sorted for reuse) to onsite.
- Conduct regular stock checks with Stores on all MRF consumables: maintenance materials, dabras, baler straps (blue baler), and cleaning supplies; raise procurement requests with Plant Manager / Procurement when stock is low.
- Follow up with Logistics to ensure purchased consumables are delivered on site on time and in the correct quantities; maintain a running record of consumables usage to inform future procurement.
- Supervise and coordinate loading of recyclable fractions onto client trucks; update the Sales Tracker after every dispatch (fraction, bale count, weight, date).
- Reconcile invoices with the Accounts team for sold fractions; make petty cash requisitions for sorting-related operational activities.
- Conduct regular safety meetings and training sessions for sorting staff; support triage and general SOP training.
- Confirm and verify casual attendance before payment; update weekly casual targets (baling/sorting) on the Casual Tracker; send bonus reminder emails to Finance, HR, and the Plant Manager.
- Verify all MRF Data team entries: Inflow, Outflow, Pig Food Sales, Total Sorted, Total Baled; contribute to weekly OKR reports.
- Assist in planning preventive and scheduled maintenance; ensure equipment checklists are up to date and worn-out spares are flagged within 48 hours.
- Participate in disciplinary hearings involving MRF staff; provide input on leave approvals based on operational requirements.
Minimum Requirements:
- Education - Diploma / Degree in any related field. Minimum KCSE Grade B.
- Experience - Proven experience team leading or supervising a production team. Proficiency in Google Sheets / Microsoft Office.
- Business Understanding - Manpower utilisation; material composition — ability to identify and separate recyclable from non-recyclable waste.
- Key Skills - Leadership | Problem-Solving | Data Entry & Interpretation | Material Knowledge | Communication | Physical Stamina
