The Theatre Technologist is responsible for providing technical and clinical support within the operating theatre environment to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical services. The role involves preparing operating rooms, surgical equipment, and instruments, assisting surgical teams during procedures, maintaining infection prevention standards, and ensuring compliance with healthcare safety protocols.

The successful candidate will support surgeons, nurses, anesthetists, and other healthcare professionals in delivering effective patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures.

Operating Theatre Preparation and Support

  • Prepare operating theatres before surgical procedures, ensuring all required equipment, instruments, and supplies are available.
  • Assist in setting up surgical equipment and ensuring proper functioning before procedures.
  • Maintain a sterile operating environment in accordance with infection prevention and control standards.
  • Assist surgical teams during procedures by providing required instruments and technical support.
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and availability of surgical instruments and equipment.

Infection Prevention and Patient Safety

  • Follow strict aseptic techniques and theatre sterilization procedures.
  • Ensure surgical instruments are cleaned, sterilized, and safely stored.
  • Maintain compliance with hospital infection prevention and control policies.
  • Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
  • Report equipment faults, safety concerns, and incidents promptly.

Equipment and Inventory Management

  • Operate and maintain theatre equipment according to manufacturer guidelines.
  • Monitor availability of surgical supplies, consumables, and instruments.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment usage and maintenance requirements.
  • Support inventory management and stock control within the theatre department.

Documentation and Team Collaboration

  • Maintain accurate theatre records and documentation.
  • Work collaboratively with surgeons, anesthetists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in surgical briefings, debriefings, and departmental meetings.
  • Support smooth patient flow through the theatre department.
  • Provide professional and compassionate support to patients throughout the surgical process.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Requirements

  • Diploma or relevant qualification in Theatre Technology from a recognized institution.
  • Valid Practicing License.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience working in an operating theatre environment.
  • Knowledge of surgical procedures, theatre protocols, and infection prevention practices.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience working in a hospital or healthcare facility with a busy surgical department.
  • Familiarity with different surgical procedures and theatre equipment.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary surgical teams.
