Background
One Acre Fund is a nonprofit organization that supplies smallholder farmers in East Africa with asset-based financing and agriculture training services to reduce hunger and poverty.
Role Context
The Quality Assurance Officer is the site authority for food safety and quality assurance. The role has independent authority to approve or reject raw materials, in-process products, and finished products based on defined specifications, food safety requirements, and customer standards. Quality and food safety decisions made by this role shall take precedence over production, throughput, or commercial considerations where product safety, legality, or quality may be compromised.
Responsibilities
- Raw Material Control: Inspect, sample, and approve/reject incoming macadamia nuts, ingredients, and packaging. Ensure transport and delivery conditions meet FSMS requirements. Manage non-conforming materials and monitor supplier performance.
- Process & Product Quality: Ensure all processing stages follow approved procedures and food safety standards. Monitor Critical Control Points (CCPs) and investigate deviations. Maintain traceability, lot integrity, and mass balance. Authorize product hold and positive release of finished goods.
- Non-Conformance & Compliance: Manage product holds, root cause analysis, and corrective actions. Oversee sanitation, pest control, hygiene, and environmental monitoring programs (PRPs). Ensure compliance with BRCGS, FSSC 22000, HACCP, Kosher, Halal, and customer standards. Support audits and maintain proper documentation.
- Team Management: Supervise 10–20 Quality Assurance contractors. Ensure staff are trained and competent in food safety and quality procedures.
Career Growth and Development
We have a strong culture of constant learning and we invest in developing our people. You'll have weekly check-ins with your manager, access to mentorship and training programs, and regular feedback on your performance. You'll have the opportunity to shape a growing organization and build a rewarding long-term career.
