WBG Pioneer - Environmental and Social Development Intern
Duties and Responsibilities
The E&S Development Intern will support the E&S team with the following:
E&S due diligence (ESDD) of projects including but not limited to:
- Preliminary screening of E&S risks and impacts of a project, including RepRisk, IBAT, media, and CSO attention/human rights screening;
- Inputting into ESDD-related documentation (early screening; Environmental and Social Review Summary and project review committee);
- Development and preparation of ESDD materials (questionnaires, agendas, site visit back to office reports);
- Expert-specific support (social, biodiversity, labor, occupational health and safety, climate);
- Reviewing client-submitted E&S documentation for completeness and quality;
- Assisting in the preparation of Environmental and Social Action Plans (ESAPs).
Monitoring of Projects:
- Reviewing Annual Monitoring Reports (AMRs) and preparing AMR review reports;
- Drafting and reviewing self-evaluation reports;
- Data analysis and assessment of the E&S portfolio, including trend identification and risk flagging;
- Assisting in the preparation of portfolio-level reporting on E&S performance;
Initiatives:
- Development of templates for ESDD and monitoring;
- Development of AI prompts and tools for E&S-related activities;
- Development of the E&S handbook for MIGA;
- Supporting internal knowledge-sharing sessions or training materials on E&S topics for MIGA staff;
Selection Criteria
- Candidates must be currently enrolled in, or in the final year of, a postgraduate (master’s/PhD) program
- Candidates are not required to have prior professional experience.
- Academic background must align with the requirements outlined in the job description
- Demonstrated interest in development work and the World Bank Group’s mission
- Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in diverse, team-based environments
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities within tight deadlines
- Proficiency in English; French would be an advantage.
