Role Overview:

The Workshop Manager is responsible for overseeing and coordinating site workshop operations, including welding, fabrication, building, carpentry and general maintenance functions. The position must deliver a high level of support to mining and processing activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the welding, fabrication, building, electrical and carpentry workshops
  • Manage building works including construction, renovations, civil works, roofing, plastering, and finishing
  • Ensure jobs are completed on time and within budget
  • Installation, maintenance and preventative maintenance of mining and plant machinery
  • Inventory and spare parts management
  • Control workshop budgets, material usage, replenishment and project costs
  • Implement and enforce health, safety and compliance standards
  • Maintain job cards, work orders, and project records with a view to providing detailed periodic reports
  • Coordinate with engineering, plant, and operations departments for site projects
  • Manage contractors and external service providers where required
  • Support site expansion, upgrades, and infrastructure development projects
  • Be a strong team player in a management team working on a busy site and contribute to the success of the business

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Trade Qualification in Construction, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field
  • Minimum 8–10 years’ experience in a similar workshop environment
  • At least 3–5 years in a supervisory or management role
  • Beneficial if registered with EBK
  • Experience in mining, industrial, commercial plant or construction sites preferred
  • Hands on knowledge of welding processes (MIG, TIG, ARC), steel fabrication, and structural works
  • Ability to read fabrication drawings and building plans

  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Excellent planning, coordination, and project execution ability
  • Strong technical understanding of fabrication and construction works
  • Cost control and material management skills
  • High safety awareness and compliance mindset
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and excellent communication skills
  • Hands on, positive mindset
  • Computer literacy (Excel, reporting, work tracking)
