Duties and responsibilities of Secondary School Teachers

Role Summary
The role of the Teacher Assistant is to provide professional support to the Teacher in facilitating continuous implementation of the IB philosophies in addition to planning for lessons in the assigned classes, IB documentation, and to ensure inquiry-based learning.

Key Responsibilities
• Assisting in the educational and social development of pupils under the direction and guidance of the class teacher.
• Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers in order to coordinate instructional efforts.
• Assist with preparation of lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment, and demonstrations.
• Distribute teaching materials such as textbooks, workbooks, papers, and other stationery to students.
• Distribute tests and home assignments and collect them when they are completed.
• Supervise the classroom when the Homeroom Teacher is out of the room.

Qualifications and Experience
• KCSE Certificate
• P1 Teaching Diploma /KNEC ECD Diploma OR Education
• TSC registration certificate
• Some knowledge of IB Primary Years Program Teaching
• I.T. skills including experience in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Office 365 and other educational applications)
• 2-5 years of continuous teaching experience
• Letters of reference or Certificate of Good Conduct

The PE/Swimming Teacher Shall Be Responsible For Teaching Physical Education / Swimming And Sports To All Students At The Nursery School, Developing Their Ability To Compete In Sporting / Swimming Events While Evaluating Their Performance As Per The Objectives And Standards Of The Primary Years Programme.

Essential Job Functions
• Maintaining accurate records of work, and student progress, which reflect a skill progression through the school.
• The planning and organization of the school’s yearly/termly sports calendar.
• The organization of all school sporting events e.g., sports days, house games etc.
• Undertaking basic health education programmes which prepare students for life.
• Attending parents’ sessions and providing them with comprehensive reports on their child’s progress
• Encouraging and developing physical fitness and skills so as to build the learners’ self-esteem through sports.
• Submission of yearly budget forecast for the department.

Qualifications And Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Education (Physical Education).
• At least 5 years’ teaching experience in a reputable school.
• PYP focused professional development.
• Teachers Service Commission (TSC) registration certificate.
• Letters of reference or Certificate of good conduct.
